The CEPNZ

What We Stand For

At the CEPNZ, we’re passionate about creating a fair and inspiring education system — one where every learner has the chance to succeed, no matter their background or family circumstances. Education should open doors for everyone, not just a few.

The Centre for Educational Progress in New Zealand (CEPNZ) partners with schools and teachers to provide high-quality resources, strategies, and tools that help students thrive. Our focus is on practical progress — supporting real learning, real growth, and real results in every classroom.

We are independent of government agendas and driven by one clear belief: every student deserves to master the fundamentals of educationliteracy, numeracy, and essential life skills — as the foundation for lifelong success.

At the CEPNZ, we stand for equal opportunity, educational excellence, and the empowerment of teachers and schools to shape brighter futures for all learners.

Mission Statement

At the Centre for Educational Progress in NZ (CEPNZ), our mission is to strengthen the foundations of education and empower teachers to help every student reach their potential. We provide you with practical tools, strategies, and resources designed to make teaching more effective and rewarding — and to help you inspire success in learners of all ages.

Education is, at its heart, the sharing of knowledge and the development of essential skills. While based in New Zealand, CEPNZ draws on the best educational practices from around the world, refining and adapting them to meet the needs of today’s classrooms.

We support a vision of education that emphasises local leadership and professional autonomy — where schools operate as dynamic learning and training hubs rather than government or ideologically-driven pressure groups. We believe every child should master the fundamentals of literacy, numeracy, digital competence, pro-social life skills, and analytical thinking from an early age.

As students grow, learning should evolve with them — equipping them with the specific knowledge and skills they need to achieve their personal goals and aspirations. At the CEPNZ, we’re here to help you make that possible.

Our Core Values

At the CEPNZ, we believe education should be accessible to all — starting with parents as a child’s first teachers and moral educators. Schools are an extension of the home and the foundation of community life, so they must provide the best environment for every student to learn, grow, and succeed in a larger community.

We know that every learner has unique strengths and interests. When students are encouraged to follow their passions and think critically, success naturally follows. That’s why the CEPNZ focuses on education, not regulation — helping teachers and schools inspire creativity, ethics, and lifelong learning.

Through our resources, kits, and guides, the CEPNZ supports schools, kindergartens, teachers, and students to build capability, confidence, and character — creating happier, more successful learners for the future.

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” — Nelson Mandela.

Our Philosophy

At the Centre for Educational Progress in New Zealand, we believe education should be both relevant and foundational. Every learner deserves the opportunity to master essential literacy and numeracy — the building blocks of all future learning and development.

We are committed to providing resources that help educators in teaching students what they need and what they want to know, fostering curiosity and practical knowledge that prepare them for real-world success.

Education, however, goes far beyond academics. We focus on developing life skills, encouraging students to set meaningful goals, pursue ambition with drive and integrity, and think creatively.

Above all, we believe that true education must include the cultivation of character and prosocial values. By nurturing empathy, responsibility, and ethical decision-making, we aim to help eliminate antisocial behaviour and promote positive citizenship.

Dedication

This website and all of the CEPNZ services are dedicated to the founding partner of the CEPNZ, Elizabeth Macmillan (1961-2024). Deeply missed but never forgotten by all who loved her or who had met her ♥
